After months of seeing the plus size brand Arula on Tiktok, I finally placed an order to give a few items a try! They offer a wide selection of items from jeans to dresses in sizes 10-24. They had a ton of really cute options and definitely leaned more boho and trendy. I find it hard to find younger feeling items in plus sizes and Arula had a good selection of items that I felt like were young feeling!
For reference, I’m a size 20/2x and I’m 5’10”.
The first item I ordered was this cute graphic tee! I got this in a 2x and I would say it fit true to size, although I wish it was more of an oversized fit. Guys, this shirt was SOFT! Like SO soft. The pattern on the front was really cute and I loved the base green color. This shirt does retail at $44.95 which did feel a little steep for a graphic tee but I do feel like the shirt was pretty high quality (I just don’t personally wear graphic tees super often!)
The next item I grabbed was this mint green shacket! This was very cute. I got it in a 3x and it did feel quite oversized so I would stick with your normal size. It wasn’t super thick which I personally liked – it felt more like a shirt to throw over another tee or tank. This was very nice quality and the fabric had a nice seersucker texture to it. This also comes in a tan color and retails for $79.95
Because spring is coming up I decided to try a few dresses. The first one I tried was this lavender smocked dress. I got this in a 2x and it fit well, although it was a bit short on me. I thought the style was cute and the color was a fun option. The fabric felt pretty nice but it was a bit see-through – not terribly and could probably be mitigated with a pair of nude shorts underneath. This dress retails for $79.95
Here’s where things started to go downhill…
I decided to order a few white dresses so I’d have some to recommend to followers looking for wedding festivity dresses! Unfortunately all three of the white dresses I tried were see through.
The first one, the Kira Dress, was a really cute style. I got it in a 3x and it fit well, along with having a good length. Unfortunately, the whole dress was VERY see through. Again, you could probably add nude shorts or a slip and it would be wearable.
The next two dresses I don’t even have photos in because I was so disappointed in the quality! I got both the Flora Maxi dress and the Caledonia dress and they retailed for $199 and $189, respectively. I got them both in the 2x and they both did not fully zip up but the main issue was the the lack of appropriate lining! They were super see through and would require full slips to wear. Personally, for dresses of this price point, I like them to be fully lined so you don’t have to worry about figuring out your own slip.
In conclusion, I would recommend Arula for fun, trendy tees or jackets but I would stay away from light-colored dresses. I would also consider sizing up in dresses that don’t offer any stretch. I’ll definitely give the brand a try again in the future and hopefully they will work on the quality of their lighter-color dressdes.
